How do I get involved?

Please contact Steve by phone, text or email to let him know that you are planning to come to a class or just come along.

When coming to a class please arrive 10 minutes early so that you have time to get changed and start warming up.

What do I need to bring with me?

  1. Suitable clothing (see below)

  2. Water bottle

  3. Flip flops for moving around the non-padded areas of the dojo.

  4. Change of clothes for after class

  5. A positive attitude!

What should I wear?

Most standard fitness clothing will be fine, you should wear loose fitting shorts and/or compression tights ideally without zippers or buttons. If you have your own hand wraps and boxing gloves, feel free to wear them, although we do have gloves that you can borrow for the class.

Do I need any of my own equipment?

Boxing Gloves - If you have your own boxing gloves and hand wraps, please bring them with you. We have gloves that you can borrow for the class if you don’t yet have your own, please see Steve at the start of the class and ask if you need to borrow any equipment for the class.

Shinpads - Some classes may require you to have MMA/ Thai Boxing shinpads, for your first classes you will be fine without though. Please ask Steve for more details when you are in class.

How fit do I need to be?

You do not need to be fit to join, you join us to get fit! Workouts are modified for every ability status in the class, so your current level of fitness will not hinder your ability to participate.

Do I need any previous experience?

No previous experience is required, we have people of mixed abilities, and we welcome people from all ages, genders and ability levels to our classes.

I’ve never done boxing / Martial arts / MMA before, does it matter?

No previous experience is required, all of our classes are for all levels from absolute beginners to experienced athletes.

What do I do when I get there?

Please aim to arrive at the dojo 10 minutes before the class starts so that you have time to get changed and start warming up. Please sign in the book at the front desk.

If it’s your first class please find Steve (if he doesn’t find you first) and let him know that you’re there and he will run you through what will happen in the class.

I would like to compete in MMA, K1 can you help me?

Of course, our classes mainly focus on the the stand up striking side of MMA. However we are part of Dorking Dojo which also home of Koba BJJ https://kobabjj.com if you wish to work on your grappling.

Can I train with you for a white collar / amateur MMA competition?

Yes of course you can train with us, we are happy to help everyone reach their goals whether its to compete or just to improve your fitness and confidence.

What if I don’t want to get hit or sparring?

No one will ever hit you without your consent. Classes consist of hitting pads, bags and dutch drills which envolves some controlled contact. Sparring is completely optional.
